What Remains: Debris and Detritus in Fine Art

Opening Reception: May 30th  /  6pm - 8pm

This exhibition invited artists to create work incorporating found or discarded materials. Partnering with EDCO, the City of San Diego Environmental Services Department and San Diego County Office of Education, SDAI will simultaneously exhibit "Dare to Reuse", an exhibition of student artwork. Leading up to these exhibitions, SDAI hosted free, hands-on workshops in the gallery each Saturday from 12pm-2pm starting March 14th. "What Remains: Debris and Detritus in Fine Art" will include several large, site-specific installations created from recycled materials, as well as the debut screening of a documentary about the Tijuana River Watershed.

Markus Anderson and Marisa Espinoza, Dia Bassett, Jon-Loren Bazan, Brian Benfer, Larry Caveney, Joyce Corum, Gabriela Domville, Rachael Erwin, Carlos Grasso, Iain Gunn, Becky Guttin, Robert Jones, Kathleen Kane-Murrell, Joshua Krause, Matthew Mahoney, Chris Martino, Meegan Nolan, Jaime Ruiz Otis, Amy Paul, Philip Petrie, Cat Chiu Phillips, Joel Pointon, Bridget Rountree, Zachary Royer Scholz, Jason Sherry, Kate Sikorski, Jane Szabo, and Rob Tobin.

Students in “Dare to Reuse” were selected through a competitive process, and represent students from Fusion Academy, Civic High, Kearney High School of International Business, La Jolla Country Day School, Mann Middle School, Muirlands Middle School, Taft Middle School, All Hallows Academy, Boone Elementary, Holmes Elementary, Myron B. Green Elementary, Del Sur Elementary, Encanto Elementary, Kate Sessions Elementary, Godfrey G. Berry Elementary, and Grant K-8 School.

Solo shows by Betty Hock and Jack Wade concurrent with "What Remains"
