Four seasoned drummers of varying styles reinterpret Steve Reich’s minimalist masterpiece “Music for 18 Musicians.” All four drummers perform on full drum kits while listening to a synchronized recording of the original work on headphones. Despite the limited sonic palette of the drum kits, the players infuse the rhythms with expressive free improvisation, tugging at the pulse and drawing out the tonality of the drums.
