Explore craft in fine art with art-world champion Don Porcella.This is an art class for all ages that focuses on fiber as the material and utilizes a variety of different techniques to make portfolio ready art. Students will engage in a brief history of art and materials and begin making art immediately that reflects their personality and enables them to go beyond the classroom with their commitment and passion. In this camp, artists will learn about form as well as content as they transform everyday materials into precious works of handmade art.
Born and raised in Modesto, California, Don Porcella’s artwork has been exhibited at galleries and museums across the U.S. and in Berlin, Paris, and Copenhagen. Porcella’s art has been reviewed in the New York Times, NY ARTS, Fiber Arts Magazine, Chelsea Now, San Francisco Magazine and the Village Voice to name a few. He has a BA in Psychology from the University of California at San Diego, a BFA from California College of Arts and Crafts and an MFA from Hunter College in New York. Porcella’s work is included in public and private collections across the United States and Europe. Porcella has received grants from the Council on the Arts and Humanities for Staten Island, the Brooklyn Arts Council, an EAF Fellowship from Socrates Sculpture Park, the 2012 West Collects Prize, an artist residency at the Museum of Arts and Design, and a 2014 Swatch Art Residency in Shanghai.
