  • San Diego Art Institute 1439 El Prado San Diego, CA, 92101 United States (map)

$65 per person

Join artist Brian Goeltzenleuchter and the San Diego Art Institute for a two hour experimental scent lab. Participants will have the opportunity to smell a range of molecules and engage in a small perfume blending exercise. Everyone will leave the session with an informed understanding of perfumery, and a small vial of their own scent formulation.

The session will start with a nose-training exercise, leading up to the basics of blending. Each participant will have a chance to make trial scents, discuss their formulations, and leave with a finished sample of their own creation.

Brian Goeltzenleuchter is an artist whose multi-sensory artwork challenges the conventions of the so-called “visual” arts. He earned his MFA in 2001 at University of California San Diego. From 2002 - 2008 he was Associate Professor of Art and Director of the MFA Program at Central Washington University. He has held residencies at the Institute for Art and Olfaction, Los Angeles, the Banff Centre, Canada, and Centrum Beeldende Kunst, The Netherlands.  He is currently a Research Fellow at the Institute for Public and Urban Affairs at San Diego State University. He also serves on the faculty of Eureka Institute for Translational Medicine, a non-profit foundation with educational and research objectives in the field of International Translational Medicine.

This exhibition is sponsored by the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture.
