SDAI has partnered with California Lawyers for the Arts to present “Rights of Publicity,” a workshop that will outline the law’s position on the capturing and dissemination of images in our highly mediated, digital age. Hosted by C.L.A lawyer Maria Gomez Rodriguez and intended for artists and non-artists alike, the workshop will take place at SDAI on January 7, 2016, from 6-8pm.
Authors, screenwriters, and visual artists are often confronted with the issue of what they can and cannot say about celebrities, political figures, and non-public figures. Similarly, the question of when and under what circumstances images and likenesses may be used presents what for many constitutes a copyright conundrum. This workshop will educate participants on the law’s position and provide guidelines to avoid exposure to liability.
Presenter Maria Gomez Rodriguez has practiced intellectual property and commercial law in both Europe and California for over 8 years. She founded MGR ArtLaw in 2013, where her practice focuses on art law and technology law.
Admission for C.L.A. and SDAI Members is $10 and $15 for the general public. Register here: http://calawyersforthearts.org/event-2088424 to reserve a seat. SDAI members use code SDAI to receive member discount.
The workshop will take place at San Diego Art Institute, 1439 El Prado, San Diego, CA 92101 from 6-8pm on Thursday, January 7, 2016.
This exhibition is sponsored by the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture
