Mural-Making Performance: November 7 - 11
Mural Completion, Knockout Party: November 11, 6pm - 8pm
Mural On View through January 7, 2018

Starting at either end of a 16-foot wall, two artists - Hugo Crosthwaite and Jose Hugo Sánchez - will “compete” in a live durational performance over five full days, improvising a pictorial narrative on migration, dislocation, labor, and the plight of the Mexico-U.S. border region they call home.

Employing performative strategies to establish an association of spectacle inspired by traditional boxing matches, the internal struggle of artists living between two countries will be displayed through gesture and illustrative documentation translating the complexities of border politics.

Crosthwaite and Hugo Sánchez will “enter the ring” at 10 AM on Tuesday, November 7, 2017; each day representing one round of battle. The physical, emotional, and mental contribution to this artistic feat culminates with a completed socio-political, narrative mural on view Saturday, November 11 from 6PM - 8 PM.
