San Diego Art Institute hosts a weekly horror film “movie and a cocktail” series every Thursday in October

The San Diego Art Institute is pleased to present a month-long series of Halloween-themed programming in celebration of two concurrent exhibitions: “The Haunted Art of T. Jefferson Carey” and “The Dead Are Not Quiet: A Group Exhibition of Macabre Art”. As part of this programming, SDAI is hosting weekly horror film screenings every Thursday in October. Each film will be accompanied by a themed cocktail. Doors will open at 5:30pm and the films will start at 6pm. All events are $5 unless otherwise noted.

Thursday, October 6, 6pm-8pm – Film Screening, The Wicker Man

The first installment in a month-long weekly film screening and cocktail series on Thursdays, SDAI is pleased to present the unedited version of the classic film The Wicker Man. Please join as we screen the sexual exploits and bizarre pagan rituals in all its glory. Accompanied by a themed apple cider beverage.

Thursday, October 13, 6pm-8pm – Film Screening, The Lair of the White Worm

Based on the Bram Stoker novel, this cult film follows the discovery of a large skull belonging to a mythical beast and the bizarre events that ensue. Accompanied by a themed White Russian.

Thursday, October 20, 6pm-8pm – Film Screening, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Following a detour to Sally & Franklin’s family’s old farmhouse, they discover a group of crazed, murderous outcasts living next door. As the group is attacked by the chainsaw-wielding Leatherface, the survivors do everything they can to escape. Accompanied by a themed Bloody Mary.

Thursday, October 27, 6pm-8pm - Luscious Noise presents A Macabre Soirée - $10

For this evening, SDAI will screen an abridged version of F.W. Murnau's Nosferatu featuring a live score compiled by Jory Herman that will make your skin crawl, performed by musicians of the San Diego Symphony under the direction of John Stubbs. In addition, there will be a spooky performance of Michael Daugherty's Viola Zombie as well as other tricks and treats. Accompanied by a themed Zombie cocktail.

This event is sponsored, in part, by the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture.
