LILIANA GARCIA
Liliana Garcia is the producer and host for the morning show “Despierta San Diego” (Wake Up San Diego), which airs weekdays on the local affiliate station for UNIVISION, the country’s largest Hispanic Television Network. She is also the producer and host for a local radio talk-show “San Diego al Dia” con Liliana Garcia, on the RADIO UNICA network.
With more than 15 years of media and communications experience, both in Mexico and the United States, Garcia is one of the most recognized and respected Hispanic journalists in Southern California.
Since her arrival to the United States in 1994, Garcia has been committed to the task of identifying the principle problems the Hispanic population in the region faces. She works diligently to find solutions to the problems that most trouble the Hispanic community.
Garcia is the first and only Hispanic to produce and host both a Spanish television show and a one-hour radio talk-show. Her radio program is the only weekly one-hour local window of information and news available to the San Diego Hispanic community.
Through her work in media, Garcia has won the recognition of the local public for her unending and constant drive to inform the Hispanic community on topics that relate to the economy, business, health and especially immigration issues.
Aside from her work in the media, Garcia has also appeared in health prevention informational videos that reach out to the Hispanic population. In addition she has participated in several public interest campaigns including immunization, anti-tobacco, mammogram awareness, Immigration, Hispanic voter participation and stay-in-school. Among her passions, she actively promotes reading literacy programs for Hispanic children in San Diego by offering practical advice to families on how to develop the love for reading at home.
Garcia was recently awarded the National Award for Radio Broadcasting, Outstanding Coverage of “Drunk Driving Issues”, by Mother’s Against Drunk Driving (MADD). In addition, she was named by the San Diego Small Business Association as Journalist of the Year for 2003.
Liliana Garcia lives in La Jolla, CA with her husband.
